Floss Bands should be a mobility staple that has a permanent spot in the bag of every athlete and gym goer. Floss bands are an essential mobility performance tool helping to improve joint range of motion, improve joint function, release trigger points, break down scar tissue and help tissue layers to glide smoothly.
How do floss bands work:
- Compression and Joint Distraction
Compressing a joint with the floss band helps create a distraction force on the joint it has been applied. Mobilising a joint with the a floss band under compression allows us to go through the joints full range of motion with no minimal restrictions due to this distraction force
- Improving Muscle and Fascial Gliding
Compressing muscle groups and taking them through their full range of motion creates a ‘flossing like’ effect between individual muscles and fascial layers, breaking up adhesions in fascia that can exist. Subsequently, this allows for a better range of motion and movement.
- Ischemic Compression and Reflexive Hyperaemia
Compressing a joint or muscle group with the floss band improves circulation by temporarily restricting blood flow to that area. Once the band is taken off a rapid increase of fresh blood floods the area (reflexive hyperaemia) which in healing and recovery. This helps to remove metabolic waste product and inflammatory mediators and brings fresh nutrient rich blood to the area.
